Dollar Tree, a discount variety store, submitted a site plan Wednesday to town officials in Rocky Mount with preliminary details about a possible store on a 1.6-acre lot near the Bojangles on Old Franklin Turnpike, Virginia 40.

Matt Hankins, Rocky Mount's assistant town manager, said the company has provided some basic details about the proposed store. County officials will review the site plan to determine whether it meets zoning requirements and conforms to town codes regulating parking, traffic flow, stormwater management and more, he said.

As proposed, the store would be about 9,981 square feet and feature 49 parking spaces. Dollar Tree stores sell all items for $1 or less.

Dollar Tree, a publicly traded Fortune 500 company headquartered in Chesapeake, reported that as of early May, it operated 4,763 stores in 48 states and Canada. Dollar Tree reported record net sales of $1.87 billion for the quarter ended May 4.
