Construction on the Steak 'n Shake restaurant at Crossroads Mall in Roanoke is coming along, and if the weather doesn't cause any trouble, the eatery should be open in early March, according to the franchisee.

The shell of the building is standing, though some work remains to be done on the exterior.

It was announced in the summer of 2011 that the franchisee Steaks of Virginia would build a restaurant in Roanoke. The project was delayed by other Steak 'n Shake openings elsewhere in Virginia. Construction started in late November.

Lee Garvin , the franchisee's director of real estate and development, didn't want to give an exact opening date because he said the weather might put them behind.
