Police pursuit ends in wreck
Jordan Fifer | The Roanoke Times
Officers investigate the scene of a crash. Police say the driver led police on a chase Saturday night.
A Salem driver led officers on a police chase until he crashed on Interstate 81 in Roanoke County Saturday night, police said.
Roanoke County Officer V.G. Branch tried to stop a vehicle for speeding on I-81 at 9:45 p.m. Saturday.
Ricky Allen Hickson failed to stop his vehicle and then lost control as he tried to exit southbound I-81 at exit 140. The vehicle crossed an embankment ramp to I-81 southbound from Thompson Memorial Drive, Branch said.
Hickson had two juveniles in his car during the incident. Police charged him with attempting to elude police, two counts of child endangerment, speeding and possession of a concealed firearm.
One passenger was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
Alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash but weather was, Branch said.
