Mike Stevens
Mike Stevens is leaving his job as sports director for WDBJ-TV (Channel 7) to become the director of communications for the city of Salem, according to a news release from the city.
Stevens confirmed his job change in an interview with The Roanoke Times a few minutes ago.
Stevens is a graduate of Virginia Tech, and he has been with WDBJ since 1985.
Stevens, 47, said that he turned in his resignation Monday night.
"It was just one of those situations where the right opportunity came up at the right time," said Stevens, whose given name is Mike Hanger.
"I've worked nights and weekends for 25 years and this was a chance to change gears. I don't know that I would have considered doing this in any other place but Salem."
