Storm warnings
Heavy rain overnight has begun to flood some roadways in the region, creating difficult driving conditions.
Some roads closed earlier today because of flooding have reopened or are being cleared, said Chuck Lionberger with the Virginia Department of Transportation.
Franklin Street in Roanoke County, Virginia 43 in Botetourt County, Virginia 18 in Craig County, and U.S. 60 are re-opened.
Water on Interstate 581/U.S. 220 has cleared and mudslides on U.S. 220 are being cleared.
Virginia 39 near Goshen and Virginia 629 from Virginia 678 to Virginia 633 remain closed.
To check road conditions, call 511 or visit www.511virginia.org.
Some secondary roads may also be closed. Motorists are advised to watch for barricades and follow detours.
VDOT also has these tips for traveling during heavy rain: Never try to cross a road that is flooded; do not drive around barricades; slow down to cross areas of standing water; watch for debris on the road; and if you come across a fallen power line, do not try to move the line.
