Kohl’s files plans for Hunting Hills Walmart space
Kohl’s is making plans to move into a Roanoke Walmart store at the Hunting Hills Plaza on U.S. 220, according to a site plan filed with the city.
The department store chain wants to transform Walmart’s space into a 100,540-square-foot store with one front entrance, according to city plans.
Kohl’s plans have not yet been approved by the city, and the retailer’s timetable for construction and opening is unclear.
Meanwhile, Walmart plans to close its Hunting Hills store and relocate to a new 203,000-square-foot Walmart Super Center under construction in the nearby Clearbrook area in Roanoke County. The timing of the new store’s opening also is unclear.
The Wisconsin-based Kohl’s ranks No. 1 at www.MyRetailRoanoke.com, a website that Roanoke created several years ago on which consumers can vote for stores and restaurants that they'd like to see come to this area. The site, created in 2007, was intended to attract new retailers to the city.
