Roanoke's DMV office open throughout Labor Day weekend

The additional operating hours will give customers more time to have license or identification card transactions processed.

Roanoke's Department of Motor Vehicles office will be open throughout the Labor Day holiday weekend to help process a backlog of driver's license applications that accumulated during a state computer failure.

Gov. Bob McDonnell announced this afternoon that 14 DMV customer service centers, including the Roanoke office, will have extended hours on Saturday and will open for half days on Sunday and Monday. The additional operating hours will give customers more time to have license or identification card transactions processed. A hardware failure and data storage problem prevented DMV from processing license applications and renewals from Aug. 25 until today.

All DMV offices will be open from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday and the Roanoke's office at 5220 Valleypark Road will remain open until 6 p.m. The Roanoke office also will be open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, and from 8 a.m. to noon on Monday.

McDonnell said DMV will also have extended hours next weekend. For more details, visit www.dmvNOW.com.
