Firefighters work to contain a fire at Paychecks Plus on Colonial Avenue in Southwest Roanoke County on Thursday night.

Faulty electrical wiring led to a fire at a business in Southwest Roanoke County Thursday night, officials said Friday.

Firefighters responded about 8:15 p.m. to Paychecks Plus in the 3700 block of Colonial Avenue after several passing motorists reported flames coming from the windows of the business, according to Roanoke County Fire and Rescue spokeswoman Jennifer Conley Sexton.

Crews arrived and found flames coming from the single story house that had been converted into a business. They had the blaze under control within 15 minutes, Conley Sexton said. No one was inside at the time, and no injuries were reported.

According to its Web site, Paychecks Plus administers payroll, bookkeeping and taxes for small businesses.

A damage estimate was not immediately available.
