Two state troopers helped a woman deliver a baby on the side of Interstate 64 in Rockbridge County on Thursday, the Virginia State Police reported today.

State police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said Raymond Workman of Clifton Forge called for help at 7:53 a.m. Thursday, telling a dispatcher that his wife, Kaylia, was about to deliver a baby and they were trying to make it to a hospital. Five minutes later he called back to say the baby was crowning.

Workman pulled on to the shoulder of I-64, where trooper D.C. Ratliff arrived at 8:06 a.m. With the assistance of trooper R.K. Hawse Jr., he helped Kaylia Workman deliver a baby boy at 8:13 a.m., Geller said.

The baby, Kaydan Issiah Workman, weighed in at 6 pounds 2 ounces. He’s doing well, Geller said.
