Bob Dills, the colorful former director of the Virginia Museum of Transportation, died last Tuesday, Oct. 27, in Charleston, S.C., friends said.
Dills was director of the museum from 2004 to 2006. He also served as a consultant for the city of Roanoke's 125th anniversary events.
Dills, 65, had worked as a consultant in recent years, and was in Charleston last weekend for a meeting, friends said.
"He was keeping busy, I know that," said former Roanoke Mayor Nelson Harris, who said he got an email from Dills less than two weeks ago.
Dills had suffered from depression and was battling multiple sclerosis. Harris said he apparently suffered a heart attack.
