The Roanoke City Council voted 7-0 Thursday to increase daily and monthly rates on the Smart Way Commuter Service between Roanoke and the New River Valley.

Effective in January, the daily one-way rate will increase from $3 to $4 and the monthly rate will increase from $100 to $120.

The rates were recommended by the Greater Roanoke Transit Company, which operates the Smart Way service.
