Police ask Metallica fans to check video, photos for missing Tech student

Virginia State Police are asking anyone with video or photos from Saturday's Metallica concert in Charlottesville to check the images and see if they show missing Virginia Tech junior Morgan Dana Harrington.

Harrington, 20, of Roanoke County, was last seen before Metallica's set began at the University of Virginia's John Paul Jones Arena. Blond, 5-foot-6 and about 120 pounds, Harrington was wearing a black T-shirt bearing the name of the metal band Pantera in tan letters across the front, black miniskirt, black tights and black knee-high boots. A friend who accompanied her said Harrington left the arena before Metallica came onstage and did not rejoin the people she came with. Her purse and cellphone were later found outside, said Amanda Melvin, a friend of Harrington's and older sister of Harrington's roommate. Harrington's car, in which she traveled to the concert, was still in the parking lot, Melvin said.

A 2007 graduate of Lord Botetourt High School, Harrington is majoring in education at Tech.

State police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said in an e-mailed statement today that investigators are following up on dozens of tips, and also continuing to canvas the area around the arena.

Police urge anyone with information to contact the Virginia State Police at (434) 352-3435 or by e-mail at bci-appomattox@vsp.virginia.gov. The number for UVA police is (434) 924-7166.

Harrington's disappearance sparked online postings at at least one Facebook group dedicated to her and on a Metallica message board.
