A teacher at Radford’s newest elementary school was arrested Thursday and charged with possession of marijuana and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Lori Anne Jarvis, 43, was charged after an incident at her home on Wednesday where an unnamed juvenile overdosed, according to a city news release.

Jarvis was taken to the NRV Regional Jail and was still there Friday under a $5,000 secured bond.

Jarvis is on unpaid administrative leave from the school system, said Radford City Schools Superintendent Chuck Bishop. District policy says she can be on leave for up to 60 days.

The third-grade teacher transferred this year to Belle Heth from McHarg Elementary School. She’s been a teacher since 2003 and earns $40,328 annually. Prior to 2003, she worked as a teacher aide at Belle Heth, Bishop said.

Bishop declined to say whether the juvenile, who was treated and released from the hospital, was a student in the school system.

He acknowledged that parents will likely be shocked by the incident, but said they have no reason to be concerned at this point.
