Tornado warning expires, but severe weather remains

A thunderstorm updraft base swirls east of downtown Roanoke Wednesday afternoon. A tornado warning was issued for the storm after National Weather Service Doppler radar picked up a tight circulation in the storm. Hail 1 inch in diameter was reported in Vinton.

A thunderstorm updraft base swirls east of downtown Roanoke Wednesday afternoon. A tornado warning was issued for the storm after National Weather Service Doppler radar picked up a tight circulation in the storm, but has since been allowed to expire. Hail 1 inch in diameter was reported in Vinton.

The National Weather Service in Blacksburg allowed a tornado warning for the city of Roanoke, southern Botetourt County, eastern Roanoke County and western Bedford County to expire, but continued other severe weather warnings for parts of the area throughout the evening.
