Three pigs died in a barn fire this morning in Botetourt County, a fire official said.

Firefighters were called to the 3000 block of Catawba Road, a few miles northwest of Daleville, about 8:40 a.m., said Dave Moran, chief of the Fincastle Fire Department. When they arrived, the barn was fully engulfed in flames, he said.

Tanker trucks from throughout the county responded, but crews knew that they wouldn't have enough water to put out the fire so they worked to save vehicles and farm equipment near the barn, Moran said.

An investigator with the Botetourt Sheriff's Office is on the scene to determine the cause of the fire, Moran said. A damage estimate was not immediately available.
