Authorities identify body found at Smith Mountain Lake
Updated 6:03 p.m.
Authorities have identified the man found dead in the water near Bay Roc Marina at Smith Mountain Lake.
Floyd A. Frost Jr., 59, lived on a boat at the marina with another person, according to Franklin County Sheriff Ewell Hunt.
A person who had come to check on another boat at the marina found Frost’s body in the water shortly before 2 p.m., he said.
“He was obviously past reviving,” Hunt said, estimating that Frost had been in the water for an hour to an hour and a half.
There were no obvious signs of foul play, Hunt said. The incident appears to be a drowning, but an autopsy will be performed, he said.

Authorities pulled the body of a man from Smith Mountain Lake Friday afternoon in Franklin County, but they said the fatal incident appears to be accidental.
Sgt. Karl Martin with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries said the victim, who was 59, was brought out of the lake about 2 p.m. near Hardy Bridge at Bay Roc Marina.
Martin did not identify the victim but said the incident was not boating-related and appeared to be an accidental drowning. It would be the first drowning of the year at the lake.
Martin did not say who discovered the victim and said the incident is being investigated by the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff Ewell Hunt said authorities have identified the victim but are not releasing his name until family can be notified.
