Man charged with soliciting Bedford County girl online

Andrew Fitzgerald Holloway

The Bedford County girl who was found Wednesday night more than 24 hours after she went missing apparently ran away with a Rhode Island man whom she met online, the sheriff's office said today.

Andrew Fitzgerald Holloway, 21, of Warwick, R.I., has been charged with three counts of carnal knowledge and two counts of soliciting carnal knowledge online from a person younger than 15.

The girl was located after she and Holloway stopped at a residence not far from her house in Evington and asked to use the phone, Maj. Ricky Gardner said. The girl was unharmed, but she was taken to Bedford Memorial Hospital as a precaution.

The sheriff's office believes that the two met online and had been communicating for about four to six months, Gardner said. They planned for Holloway to come to Bedford County so they could run away together.

They were on the run until Wednesday night, when investigators believe they got too cold and asked to use a resident's phone as an excuse to get warm, Gardner said. The resident recognized the girl from a flier and called 911.

The girl was identified in an earlier news story about her disappearance but she is not being named now because The Roanoke Times does not name victims of alleged sex crimes.
