Elliston man dies in single-vehicle crash
An Elliston man died from injuries he sustained when he drove a truck off of West Main Street and flipped it on an embankment south of Salem, police said.
William Clarence Ford, 46, was driving west in a Ford F150 truck about 9:20 p.m. Sunday when it went off the road near Yale Drive, said Sgt. Chris Kuyper of the Roanoke County Police Department.
A man who was riding with Ford suffered minor injuries and was taken by Life-Guard to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Kuyper said. The man's name was not released.
The two were coming from a restaurant in Salem, Kuyper said. Ford had consumed alcohol, but it was not clear whether that was a factor in the crash.
Weather was not a factor, and no other vehicles were involved. Neither of the occupants was wearing a seat belt.
