Firefighters are on the scene of a brush fire in Southwest Roanoke County in the area of Poor Mountain, a department spokeswoman said.

Firefighters are still trying to get to the fire from Ridgelea Road to assess the situation, said spokeswoman Jennifer Conley Sexton. It's not yet known if the fire is threatening any homes, or how large the fire is. But, firefighters are worried that today's strong winds will quickly spread the blaze.

The Virginia Department of Forestry has been called to assist and is sending a bulldozer, Conley Sexton said.
