Intermet could lay off 140 more employees
Intermet Corp. has told the state it has tentative plans to lay off a sizable portion of it Radford work force.
The maker of cast-metal automotive components, based in Ft. Worth, Texas, filed a notice Nov. 21 saying its unionized Radford foundry will possibly lay off 140 people on or before Jan. 20.
Company spokesman Gordon Cole declined to say how many people work at Intermet in Radford. In August, the company laid off 56 employees, leaving 160 remaining at the time.
The company is in bankruptcy for a second time. Cole had no direct comment on the notice.
“We will continue to adjust our production to meet the needs of our customers,” Cole said.
A WARN filing does not require a company to act, only to notify employees of a possible layoff or closure. A full list of this year's filings is available on the Web.
