Wreck closes Roanoke County street, may affect electrical service
Roanoke County police blocked part of Barrens Road on Monday afternoon after a truck crashed into a utility pole.
According to a police news release, the vehicle struck a pole in the 8100 block of Barrens Road about 4:20 p.m. and the street has been closed to traffic between the 7900 and 8200 blocks.
A Roanoke County dispatch supervisor said the vehicle involved was a Chevrolet pick-up truck and said no one on the scene was taken to the hospital.
Police said that Appalachian Power is attempting to repair the pole, which they said may lead to periodic power outages in the area. The road will remain blocked while repairs are made and could stay closed for four to six hours.
Barrens Road intersects with Peters Creek Road and police are advising motorists to take alternate routes.
