Hospital giant HCA Inc. announced today it will eliminate some positions at hospitals in Southwest Virginia.

"We've eliminated some positions today which did affect some people," said Nancy May, spokeswoman for HCA Southwest Virginia.

Thirteen positions were eliminated at the local flagship Lewis-Gale Medical Center, resulting in seven people being laid off. Other cuts were made at other HCA-owned hospitals in Southwest Virginia, May said.
