Roanoke cargo company to shut down, lay off 73
ABX Air Inc. has notified the state it intends to close its Tom Andrews Road facility in Roanoke and eliminate the jobs of 73 employees there effective Jan. 13.
The company notified the Governor's Office for Workforce Development of its plans Friday.
ABX, an air cargo services provider, has said in recent days that it intends to lay off numerous employees in the wake of a decision by package delivery company DHL to stop express delivery in the United States and focus on international delivery.
ABX, a unit of Air Transport Services Group Inc., is a subcontractor for DHL. A call to ABX headquarters in Wilmington, Ohio, was not immediately returned.
