A Roanoke County grand jury today indicted Jeffery Martin Young in the January death of Thomas Farrell.
Young, 31, is now charged with murder and felony hit-and-run.
Farrell, a 49-year-old lawyer, was killed after he was hit by a vehicle Jan. 28 in Southwest Roanoke County while jogging.
Young's white Jeep had been linked to the hit-and-run, and Roanoke County police previously called Young a person of interest.
Young has been in custody since January on charges of malicious wounding, felonious assault, assault and battery and obstructing justice. Those charges stem from an incident at Slaughters' Supermarket in Floyd County in which Young is accused of attacking a woman with a stick. That happened two days after Farrell was killed in Southwest Roanoke County.
