Power restored to more than 4,000 utility customers in Roanoke Valley
Power was restored to more than 4,000 Appalachian Power Co. customers this morning after it was cut off hours earlier in two isolated incidents in Roanoke and Franklin counties.
At 10 p.m. Wednesday, about 2,850 customers lost power in the southwest part of Roanoke County when a circuit breaker failed in one of that area's substations, said Appalachian spokesman Todd Burns.
Power was restored there shortly after 2 a.m.
Separately, 200 Franklin County customers were in the dark starting at about 10:30 Wednesday after an insulator cracked, and electricity leaked to a pole, Burns said.
The pole caught fire, and firefighters quickly extinguished it, Burns said. Power was restored there by 6 a.m.
