Police pursuit ends in crash
A driver and passenger were taken into custody Friday night following a police pursuit that wound through Roanoke County, Roanoke and Salem, officials said. The car also drove through the front yard of a
house before it crashed, but no one was hurt.
Sgt. M.H. Tuck with Roanoke County police said that about 9:20 p.m., near the intersection of Cove and Peters Creek roads in Northwest Roanoke, officers attempted to stop a blue 1989 Pontiac Grand Am for improper registration. The car fled, leading police cruisers west on Melrose and onto East Main Street in Salem, then north on Kesler Mill Road.
As the car neared the 1100 block of Polar Lane, Tuck said, the vehicle then drove across a field, down an embankment, through a residential yard, crashing into a fence at the bottom of a hill.
Sgt. C.L. Kuyper said the driver fled on foot and was found hiding in some leaves within sight of the car. Kuyper said he surrendered when approached. He estimated the entire incident only lasted about 15 minutes.
Both the driver and the passenger were apprehended. The driver, Quinton Pulling, was charged with felony eluding police, driving under the influence, operating a vehicle without a license and improper registration. He was being held Friday night at the Roanoke County-Salem Jail.
