Carilion Clinic purchased two more independent medical centers Thursday.

Already Southwest Virginia's largest health care provider, Carilion has expanded its footprint by purchasing the Center for Advanced Imaging and the Center for Surgical Excellence.

Both centers were owned and operated by Martin Hellkamp.

The price of the sale was not disclosed.

The Center for Advanced Imaging, located at 2923 Franklin Road, was founded in 2002 and the Center for Surgical Excellence, located at 2107 Rosalind Ave., was founded last year.

The deal follows Carilion's announcement Monday that it is purchasing the area's largest cardiologist practice, Consultants in Cardiology. That deal will be finalized Jan. 1.

“Our shared goals of clinical excellence, quality improvement, patient-centered care, service and accountability led us to this point,” said Martin Hellkamp, president of CAI and CSE in a news release. “We expect a smooth transition for our physicians and patients.”
