Bedford police identify woman killed in fiery crash
Authorities in Bedford have identified the person who died after a car burst into flames near the western city limits in late July.
Benita Donella Woods, 37, of Lynchburg was found inside a burning Chevrolet Malibu off U.S 460 on July 23, according to a statement issued by the Bedford police this morning.
Toxicology results are pending.
Firefighters who responded to a call for a car that was in flames found Woods' body inside, police said. Police later determined that speed was a factor in the crash in which the Malibu left the road and came to rest in a field.
Woods did not own the car, which was registered in Kentucky, but was driving it with permission, Bedford Police Chief Jim Day said in July.
