No foul play suspected in death of man in Old Southwest

The Medical Examiner's Office has ruled there was no foul play in the death of a man whose body was found Wednesday in Roanoke's Old Southwest neighborhood.

The office has yet to rule on a cause of death, pending the conclusion of toxicology tests, according to Roanoke police.

A teenager saw the bloodied body under some brush on property owned by the Episcopal Diocese of Southwestern Virginia in the 1000 block of First Street Southwest, said Christie Wills, spokeswoman for the diocese.

Police said the man was 38 years old but have not released his identity because his family requested his identity not be made public.

Wills said she and other employees have found bedding in the brush where the body was found, leading them to believe that transients sometimes slept there.

The diocese will plant a tree near where the body was found and dedicate it in his memory, Willis said.
