Hundreds were left without power after late-night storms

Power has been restored to the hundreds of Appalachian Power co. customers who were left without power after a thunderstorm Tuesday night swept it away.
The thunderstorm that swept through Southwest Virginia night had left about 450 Appalachian Power Co. customers in Roanoke and Botetourt counties without power this morning.

The most severely affected areas were in southwest Roanoke County and in the Fincastle and Troutville areas, said Todd Burns, an Appalachian spokesman.

The thunderstorm, which brought heavy rains late Tuesday night, caused power outages for about 2,000 customers in Giles, Roanoke and Botetourt counties at about 10 p.m., Burns said.

Appalachian expected to have power restored by midday, Burns said.

"This is is storm season," Burns said. "Be prepared for power interruption because there are things that can happen beyond our control."
