Roanoke Fire-EMS responded to a house fire in
Southeast Roanoke on Monday night, but no one was injured.
According to Battalion Chief Audie Ferris, the blaze broke out in the rear of a two-story house in the 800 block of Bullitt Avenue just before 8 p.m. Crews were able to contain the fire within about 20 minutes.

Roanoke police closed Bullitt Avenue at 8th Street and
detoured traffic while the fire was being fought.
“Most of the fire was in the rear,” Ferris said, indicating an addition that appears to have been built off of the structure’s kitchen.
The branches of an apple tree hang over the extension and some of the fruit was blackened from heat and withered on the limbs.
The cause of the fire and the amount of damage it caused were not available Monday night. Ferris said the house was not destroyed but would be uninhabitable for the time being. The resident of the house was not at home at the time of the incident.
Ferris said Monday night’s heat and humidity made it more difficult for firefighters to cool down after their efforts, but added that the manager of a nearby store had sent crews a case of cold bottled water.
