Two taken to hospital after Salem gas leak

Two people were taken to a hospital this morning with non-life-threatening injuries after a natural gas leak at an office building in Salem, an official with the Salem Fire and Rescue Department said.

Fire crews were called to Liberty Medical Supply in the 2100 block of Apperson Drive just before 9 a.m., said Capt. John Prillaman.

Two people who were in the building at the time of the leak were taken to a hospital, he said. Others were evacuated.

The gas was shut off, and fire crews have been ventilating the building, Prillaman said. At 12:30 p.m., officials were getting ready to let people back inside.
