Still no Obama, but four Democrats to stump in his stead tonight
Former president Clinton to campaign at 5:45 today in Roanoke. Huckabee at 7:15.
Four supporters of Sen. Barack Obama’s bid for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination will speak at a rally for his campaign at 8 tonight in Roanoke, less than 12 hours before polls open in Virginia’s primary election.
Anne Holton, a former judge married to Gov. Tim Kaine, their son Nat, former Mississippi Gov. Ray Mabus, and House Minority Leader Ward Armstrong of Martinsville will appear at the Dumas Center for Artistic & Cultural Development, at 108 Henry St.
Obama was scheduled to have appeared this morning at the Jefferson Center in Roanoke but Sunday’s high winds made travel unsafe and forced the cancellation of the event. Hundreds of people braved the winds earlier Sunday to stand in line for tickets in downtown Roanoke.
Meanwhile, former president Bill Clinton is scheduled to appear at Roanoke’s Patrick Henry High School, 2102 Grandin Road, at 5:45 p.m. today, to campaign for his wife, New York Sen. Hillary Clinton. And on the Republican side, presidential candidate and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee will appear at 7:15 p.m. at the O. Winston Link Museum, 101 Shenandoah Ave., Roanoke.
