Former Bedford County teacher faces sex charges
David Allen Cherry
David Allen Cherry, who taught at Staunton River High School, was arrested Jan. 8 and charged with three counts of forcible sodomy and one count of taking indecent liberties with an underage girl, authorities said.
The charges stem from incidents alleged to have happened in the fall of 2005, when Cherry was a teacher at Staunton River and the girl was a student there, said Maj. Ricky Gardner of the Bedford County Sheriff's Office.
Cherry, 38, started working at the high school in November 2004 and taught computer courses, said Ryan Edwards, spokesman for Bedford County schools.
Cherry was suspended Sept. 6 after a complaint was made against him, Edwards said, declining to elaborate. Cherry resigned Sept. 17 while the school system was investigating the complaint.
Cherry is free on $25,000 bond, authorities said. A phone message left at his home was not immediately returned.
