Carilion Clinic moves inpatient services today
Starting at 7 a.m. this morning, Carilion Clinic will begin moving all its in-patient services from Roanoke Community Hospital near downtown to Roanoke Memorial Hospital in South Roanoke.
Those services include the emergency department, the neonatal care unit, pediatrics, and labor and delivery. Also, starting at that time, Community Hospital will no longer admit new obstetric, gynecologic or neonatal patients. Instead, they will be admitted at Memorial Hospital.
The move is expected to take three days and will complete a $105-million plan to expand Memorial Hospital. The former emergency department at Community Hospital will reopen Friday, Sept. 21, as an urgent-care center with daily hours between 7:30 a.m. and 10:30 p.m.
