Valley View Mall has created a "youth escort" policy that will prohibit teenagers from hanging out at the mall without adult supervision on Friday and Saturday nights.

The policy takes effect July 13. Starting at 6 p.m. each Friday and Saturday, anyone under the age of 18 will have to be accompanied by an adult family member or guardian. IDs will be checked at mall entrances.

Mall manager Louise Dudley said no specific event led to the creation of the policy. She said that hundreds of teenagers hang out at the mall, and that some adult patrons have been complaining.
