A father and one of his children were killed Saturday evening in a traffic accident in Bland County. The accident sent another of his children, who was also in the vehicle, to the hospital.

A Virginia State Police spokesman said the accident occurred shortly after 7 p.m. on Virginia 52 in the Rocky Gap area of the county.

The southbound Ford pickup truck ran off the left side of the road, skidded about 279 feet and ran under a parked truck trailer, police said. The pickup ran off the road near a curve, and speed may have contributed to the accident, the spokesman said.

The injured child was airlifted to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, police said.

Names of the victims were not released.

The accident remains under investigation.
