Flying wheels of a tractor-trailer caused a hiccup in traffic Thursday evening in Montgomery County.
A set of rear wheels on a tractor-trailer came off the vehicle while it was headed south on Interstate 81, and they rolled across the road and hit a minivan in the northbound lane shortly after 5:30 p.m. near mile marker 119 in Christiansburg, according to Virginia State Trooper M.D. Collins.
He said the entire set of wheels came off the truck in the unusual wreck.
Collins said there were no injuries in the crash and no charges filed. One lane of I-81 was closed for about an hour, backing up traffic in the area for miles during the end of rush hour, but everything was cleared up about 7 p.m.
