The intersection of Woodhaven Drive and U.S. 460 in the town of Bedford is closed as work recently started on a long-term project to realign the road junction for improved safety and accessibility.
A notice to residents in the area said the road would be closed for about 120 days, weather permitting. The closure began last week.
The county is undertaking the project in coordination with the Virginia Department of Transportation. When completed, it will connect Woodhaven Drive to Field Road, a newly constructed road within a new development called Harmony, just west off the highway.
Field Road will allow access back to U.S. 460. VDOT plans to alter the site of the current Woodhaven-U.S. 460 crossover, which some Bedford officials have labeled as potentially dangerous to motorists because of its slope and topography.
