Franklin County officials have identified the human remains found inside a burned vehicle on Philpott Road on Sunday.
DNA analysis indicates the remains belong to Vicky Harbour Purdy, 53, of Henry County, Franklin County Sheriff Bill Overton said in a news release.
Sheriff's office Lt. Phillip Young said Monday that the remains were found Sunday at 3:18 p.m. in the 2000 block of Philpott Road, near the Henry County line, after a passer-by looking at land for sale spotted the charred vehicle in a remote area and called authorities.
The car was a white 2004 Toyota Corolla registered to Purdy and her husband, the news release said.
Young said Friday that investigators were still working to determine more precisely when and how Purdy died. He would not say whether evidence of an accelerant was found at the scene, nor whether detectives have spoken with Purdy's husband.
Henry County Sheriff's Capt. Eric Winn said Purdy's husband had reported her missing to Henry County authorities, saying she was last seen on Oct. 3.
Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's office at 483-6601.
