A Blacksburg couple died over the weekend in Myrtle Beach, S.C., following a motorcycle wreck.
Myrtle Beach police Sgt. Jim Allen said Thomas Weeks III was driving a 2006 Boss Hoss three-wheeled trike bike north on the U.S. 17 Bypass about 2 p.m. Friday when he crossed over a median and collided with an SUV. Weeks, 43, died at the scene.
His passenger, Stephanie Weeks, 36, was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. She died about 1 p.m. Saturday, Allen said.
Two people inside the SUV were also taken to a hospital with minor injuries. They were treated and released, Allen said. He declined to identify the pair.
Speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash, Allen said. Thomas Weeks may have had a pre-existing medical condition that contributed to the wreck, Allen said, but he did not elaborate on that condition.
The Weekses were not wearing helmets, but Allen said there is no helmet law for people over 21 in South Carolina.
A memorial fund has been set up for the family on the website www.fundrazr.com. According to the site, the couple had a 4-year-old daughter named Amarynn. More than $1,500 had been donated online to the family as of Sunday afternoon.
