Roanoke police are looking for vehicles involved in a shooting that briefly put Westside Elementary School in "shelter in place" status Tuesday.

Capt. Monti Lee said occupants of one car are believed to have fired shots at another car near the elementary school, along Hershberger Road Northwest, shortly before 11 a.m.

Police haven't found either vehicle or anyone involved in the incident, he said. No one at the school was injured, and police don't believe it was related to the school.

School system spokesman Justin McLeod said officials do not believe there was any immediate threat to the school. The shelter in place was lifted later in the day.

During a shelter in place, McLeod said, visitors to the school are limited and there are no outdoor activities.
