A former Radford University student was sentenced to five years in prison Friday for distributing a small amount of cocaine.

Darius Dalton of Martinsville received the sentence during a jury trial in Radford Circuit Court.

According to prosecution witnesses, Dalton sold less than a gram of cocaine for $55 to an informant in October 2011, Commonwealth’s Attorney Chris Rehak said in a news release.

Dalton, who denied involvement, was sent to jail Friday to begin serving his sentence, which was the minimum in a range of up to 40 years in prison.
