Roanoke police are looking for a man wanted in a Sunday morning shooting just off Williamson Road.
Police spokesman Scott Leamon said the department has obtained an arrest warrant on a charge of malicious wounding for Anthony Brian Barnett, 27, of Roanoke.
The charge stems from the shooting of Samantha Newman, a 24-year-old Roanoke woman, police said. Newman was found at the corner of Lyndhurst Street Northwest and Round Hill Avenue Northwest at 2:15 a.m. Sunday, sitting in the driver's seat of a car with multiple gunshot wounds. Information about her condition was unavailable Monday.
Search warrants filed in Roanoke Circuit Court said Newman and a man were in a Buick Lacrosse when officers arrived. They told investigators that Barnett had fired the shots from a black Chevrolet Tahoe SUV. The other man, who was in the passenger seat, was not injured.
Officers searched Barnett's SUV, as well as a residence in the Windy Hill Key Apartments off Virginia 419 where family members said he was living.
Investigators performed a gunshot residue test in the SUV but did not seize anything from the apartment, according to the warrants.
Police are asking for the public's help in locating Barnett. Leamon said he is considered armed and dangerous.
Anyone with information about Barnett's whereabouts should call 911. Tips also can be called in to Roanoke police at 853-5959 or Crime Line at 344-8500.
