Five people were hospitalized Sunday night after a driver crossed into the wrong lane and collided head-on with another vehicle in the Chamblissburg section of Bedford County , state police said.
Paige Newcomb, 22, of Vinton, was traveling east on Virginia 24 near the intersection with Dickerson Mill Road when she crossed into the westbound lane, said Trooper Daniel House with the Virginia State Police. Her car collided head-on with a vehicle driven by Anna Banks, 50, of Roanoke.
Newcomb and the three other occupants of her vehicle, as well as Banks, were taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital with injuries.
Riding with Newcomb were an 8-month-old infant and two adults, House said.
"Alcohol was a factor, and charges are pending," House said.
