Downpours on Thursday afternoon created some hazardous road conditions in parts of Roanoke and the New River Valley.

Flooding in Giles County closed part of U.S. 460 at Pembroke, making both lanes of the road impassable, according to The Virginia Department of Transportation. The road was reopened around 8 p.m.

Appalachian Power’s website also reported that 133 customers were without power as of 6:30 p.m., but power was restored within a few hours.

Both lanes of Route 104 at Jamestown Road in Botetourt County have been closed off because of a tree that fell onto the road. In Roanoke, part of a tree fell in the 1900 block of Brandon Avenue, near the Grandin Road intersection. One lane of Brandon Avenue was closed for a time as a result.

Rain is predicted to continue through the rest of the evening and for the next few days.
