Two men were flown to a hospital after their vehicle wrecked with a logging truck in Alleghany County on Monday afternoon.
Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Rob Carpentieri said a 2000 Ford pickup truck was southbound on U.S. 220 at the Interstate 64 ramp from Exit 16A about 12:45 p.m. when the driver apparently ran a red stoplight and struck a 2000 Western Star tractor-trailer hauling logs.
The driver of the pickup, Jonathan Patrick Tucker, 37, of Clifton Forge, and his front-seat passenger, Thomas Austin, 57, were airlifted to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Carpentieri said. Austin was in serious condition and Tucker in good condition at the hospital Monday evening, said spokesman Eric Earnhart.
Carpentieri said the driver of the logging truck, Teddy Ray Fitzgerald, 48, of Lynchburg, was not injured in the crash.
Charges against Tucker were pending Monday evening, Carpentieri said.
