Maintenance on a bridge on the northbound side of Virginia 419 bridge near Apperson Drive is set to begin today, causing delays for more than a month.

The two-lane bridge, which is just north of the intersection, passes over Norfolk Southern railroad tracks and is due for required upkeep, according to a Salem City news release.

Work will require one lane of the bridge to be closed through Sept. 13, the release said, and motorists are encouraged to find alternate routes.
