Railroad travelers soon will be able to reserve tickets for the bus from Roanoke to the Lynchburg train station when they book train tickets, officials said Wednesday.
Valley Metro, operator of the Smart Way Connector bus service that ferries rail passengers from Roanoke to Lynchburg, said it is teaming up with Amtrak's online reservation system to make travel planning more "seamless," a news release said.
The new booking convenience begins Monday. The one-way, $4 bus fee will be added to the train ticket price.
Right now, travelers board the bus at the Roanoke Civic Center without a reservation, paying the driver as they get on. That will continue to be allowed.
In a related announcement, Valley Metro said the Connector will, starting on Labor Day, run on all federal holidays including Christmas and New Year's Day.
