A Roanoke woman was killed after being thrown from a vehicle in Warren County on Thursday.
Virginia State Police Sgt. Les Tyler said a 2006 Nissan van was traveling west on Interstate 66 in Warren County on Thursday shortly before 2:30 p.m. when a heavy rainstorm came through. Tyler said the driver lost control in the rain and the van went off the right side of the road and struck the guardrail, then spun around and hit it again. The van then spun across the road into the left lane and hit another guardrail before stopping, Tyler said.
Tyler said Sunmi Seo, 37, of Roanoke, was sleeping in the back seat and was ejected from the vehicle. Tyler said Seo, who was not wearing a seat belt, died at the scene. No one else was injured, he said.
Tyler said Seo's husband, Kwan Woo Seo, 39, was driving the van. Their two children, ages 7 and 6, were in two seats up front. Tyler said they were wearing seat belts.
Tyler said Kwan Woo Seo was issued a summons for reckless driving for failure to maintain control of the vehicle.
